I'm just wondering because its not like they're born past September, and they're only a year younger than I am. I'm a freshman in college, shouldn't they be seniors?

Sorry if this has already been discussed like a million times haha, I'm new ;)

Perhaps their birthday is in one of the months where they had to start kindergarden late, or perhaps they had to stay back a grade?

Cute pictures.

And BTW, hubby loves Ann Coulter. She bugs me to no end.

I read somewhere were that they either started school a year late or were held back early-on in grammar school. I don't know if it is true or not.

I believe I read this on this board. It was some time ago.

Senior year starts in late August early September.I also wonder why they aren't seniors now.

It is not uncommon for boys to start a year late. My son who was born at the end of May-was held back a year. Boys mature latter than girls, it is a fact of life.

The twins and my son are in the same year in school. They happen to live in a state that has an August cut off date if I am not mistaken. There are some states that have a December cut off so those kids would be seniors. Washington also has an August cutoff. My son loves the fact that he will be over six four as a senior and playing great basketball.

Utah has an August cutoff I believe also. My hubby was a year later graduating as his mom held him back one grade, so there could be many reasons for it.

Some people just choose to have their kids start kindergarten a year later... it really depends on what is going on with each kid at the time, and the family situation. In my state, Sept. 1st is the cut-off, and both my kids have birthdays in Oct. and Dec. In fact, my son (4) already goes to school in an Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program, because of his disabilities (Autistic, LP, and hand deformities), and is in a special class. He's been in since his 3rd birthday... next year he will probably be in special pre-K and the following year (when he will turn 6) is when he will start kindergarten (again, probably a special Ed. group). My daughter was only 8 weeks shy of turning 6 when she started kindergarten, though we really hoped that academically she would be allowed to start earlier (she's gifted), but the school district is really strict about allowing kids to start kindergarten early... :-( In pre-K, she was reading at or above a 4th grade level... the test they gave her maxed out at 4th grade, so they said she could be reading above that level. But anyway, like I said, each kid is a unique case, and some parents feel that why start them too early, but rather give them an extra year of "being a kid" so to speak before they have to go out to the tough world of adulthood. It really depends on where they are at socially, academically, etc. when they start, and if they're ready for kindergarten at that point. But with Jer and Zach, it's only a year... no big deal difference.

It's not a big deal for them to be juniors now. Lots of people do it to give their kids a boost by not being the youngest in class.

they are juniors because matt and amy weren't smart enough to know that they needed to be in school. they missed a whole year when they were 6 because they were so poor matt and amy couldn't buy them any clothes and amy couldn't find the ones they had. those kids had been running naked since the age of 3, matt was out of work again and he was so drunk that amy was always looking for clothes. she tried making clothes out of newspaper but that didn't work out so they had to go without clothes. amy never does laundry but that's no secret.

Amy never does laundry because she is so concerned about the environment that she doesn't want to pollute the water. She should be commended and receive a Humanitarian Award.

My twins are 19 and seniors. I held three of our four children out of kindergarten for a year because I didn't think they were ready to go to school yet. One twin was ready and one wasn't and I didn't want to have them a year apart in school. Twins are often born before full term (40 weeks) and are generally smaller than singleton babies. That in itself would be a good reason to hold them back. Also, twins tend to have more upper respiratory problems, ear infections because of drainage, etc. It was the bes thing we ever did by holding them and their brother back a year. My kids were all small for their age so it wasn't obvious they were younger. It was a huge advantage as they had that extra maturity that was to their advantage. We should have held my oldest son back but back then (he's now 25) it wasn't common to do that and no one told me I should. He was very immature, not well behaved, in general should have probably been in an early intervention program. He was 5 and our second son was 1 1/2 when the twins were born so my oldest son was more immature because of that. We didn't have neighbors for him to play with and I was too busy to take him to preschool.

Twin lesson over for today!

P.S. My twins do not like being 19 year old seniors. Their bodies are telling them it's college time and time to be away from home. But, they loved being older and being the first ones to get their driver's license among their peers! I didn't like it because they were stuck driving all the time.......
